Wynnfield Scott Catron, of Traer, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the age of 74. Born in Waterloo, Iowa, on November 21, 1951, to Russell and Zola (Holst) Catron, Wynnfield’s journey through life was marked by warmth, dedication, and a boundless love for the people who surrounded him.

A proud member of the North Tama High School class of 1971, Wynnfield forged lifelong friendships and discovered an early calling to serve others. He began his studies in social work at Marshalltown Community College, nurturing a desire to connect with and help those around him. While life’s path led him to begin work at John Deere before finishing college, it turned out to be a place where Wynnfield left a lasting impression until his retirement.

Wynnfield was known for his simple joys and big heart. Those who knew him will remember his ever-present cans of Pepsi and Coke, and his fondness for strawberry jelly rolls—which he enjoyed as if savoring the sweetest moments of life. He never missed a chance for a chat, reveling in camaraderie and making friends wherever he went. Always on the move, always willing to lend a hand, Wynnfield found genuine delight in helping others. He also cherished his time at the casino, where the thrill of the game was only matched by his enjoyment of good company.

If you ever visited Wynnfield’s home, you would notice his gentle respect for nature, especially the squirrels he so adored. Hours spent feeding and watching them brought peace and joy to his days; it was a quiet hobby that reflected his caring spirit. But above all else, Wynnfield’s pride and devotion centered on his beloved grandchildren—Tristan, Liberty, and Chandler. The treasured bond he shared with Chandler stood out as something truly special, a testament to the affection and guidance he freely offered.

Wynnfield is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Rachael Tasseff; two brothers, Owen and Aaron Catron; two stepbrothers, Arvid and Charles; and his beloved cat, Socks and dog, Tags.

Wynnfield’s family and friends will feel his absence keenly, yet they hold tightly to the many memories that shaped their lives. He is survived by his ex-wife and steadfast friend, Teresa Catron of Traer; his three cherished grandchildren: Tristan Dvorak, currently serving in the Army in France; Liberty Weber (with Alexus Gomez), of Laredo, Texas; and Chandler Catron of Traer. He also leaves behind a precious great-grandchild, Anastasia; sisters, Sue Thompson and Kris Lindaman. Close friendships enriched his life—especially with JB Hardwick, Judy Hardwick, Travis, and Jane Altenhein, brought comfort and companionship. Many nieces, nephews, and countless other family members and friends were touched by his kindness and authenticity.
