Shirley Lou Kahler

Shirley Lou (Maust) Kahler was born July 14, 1935, in Waterloo, IA, to Kenneth and Marie (Clough)Maust. She married LaVern Kahler on November 23, 1951, in Harding, Arkansas.

Shirley enjoyed mowing the lawn and always had a garden. She enjoyed canning, making holiday meals, and having all the family at home.

Shirley passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the family home in Traer, with her family by her side and under the care of Grundy County Hospice.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, LaVern; her son, Chuck (LaVern Jr.); her parents; and her great-granddaughter, Maggie Kesl; two brothers; and one sister.

She is survived by her children, Penny (Scott) Peters, Jolene “Jo” (Madelon Harms) Kahler, Rhonda (Larry) Kling, and Jon (June) Kahler; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sandy McLean.

There will be a private family graveside at Crystal Township Cemetery, Garwin, IA.
