Roger Alan Peters of Dysart, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the age of 64. Roger’s sudden departure has left a quiet ache in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. 

Born in Waterloo, Iowa, on September 27, 1961, to Keith and Darlene (Taylor) Peters, Roger was shaped by the land and the people of Iowa. He spent his formative years in Dysart and graduated with the class of 1980 from Dysart High School—a milestone that marked the beginning of a life always on the move and filled with ambition.

After high school, Roger began farming side-by-side with his father, forging strong bonds with both family and the land. His connection to hard work and rolling fields would remain a constant thread through his life. But Roger’s path was never linear; he found fulfillment and purpose in many walks of life, and embraced each new challenge with a hopeful heart.

Roger was a truck driver for many years, steering big rigs for Elliotts and Bertch Cabinets, and later branching out on his own as a self-employed driver. He relished the independence and adventure that life on the road offered. Later, he poured his energy and spirit into running The Lighthouse, a beloved bar in Clutier, Iowa. There, Roger’s gift for conversation and his knack for sharing dreams found a natural home; he was happiest in the company of friends, old and new.

In recent years, Roger continued to serve his community, hauling grain for local farmers up until about five years ago. Never one to sit still, he was a familiar sight around town as he picked up odd jobs—mowing yards, tending to plants and flowers, and lending a hand wherever one was needed. Roger was a dreamer at heart, always believing in the possibility of the next big idea, and he generously shared his hopes and stories with anyone willing to listen.

Roger was known for his big heart.  With little regard for how much or how little he had, he was always ready to help a friend. His kindness extended to animals as well; his devoted companion Buddy, along with two cherished cats, were beloved members of his family and comforted him through life’s ups and downs.

Roger’s passing follows that of his parents, Keith and Darlene; his grandparents, Vivian and Tom Taylor and Albert and Pansy Peters; and many other dear family members whose memories he held close.

He is survived by his three loving sisters: Susan (Larry) Kroemer of Cedar Rapids, IA; June (David) Wilson of Hudson, WI; and Sharon (Keith) Stubblefield of Republic, MO. His faithful dog, Buddy, remains as a testament to the love and loyalty that characterized Roger’s days. Around him stood a circle of many extended family and friends, who now hold one another a little closer as they remember him.

A visitation for Roger Alan Peters will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Dysart Methodist Church.
