Robert Duane Caslavka

May 30, 1930 — January 30, 2025

Clutier

Robert Duane Caslavka was born May 30, 1930, on the family farm near Clutier, Iowa, the son of William and Mildred (Konicek) Caslavka. He graduated from Dysart High School in 1947.

When Bob was a young man, he was known for wearing a leather jacket and driving a red convertible. That must have caught Marcella Brehm’s eye, and they married April 3, 1955. He enjoyed long haul trucking in their early years of marriage, but most of their married life was spent farming near Clutier.

Bob was proud of being a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. He was a Korean War Vet and member of the Hora-Machacek Legion Post. Bob liked to say, “Once a Marine, always a Marine!”

Bob enjoyed retelling stories of all the wonderful years he spent traveling the Midwest with his daughter, Nancy, attending horse shows. He was the best pooper scooper, horse holder, chauffer, and joke teller! He even helped out by showing an extra horse now and then. Bob served on the Iowa Pinto Horse Association board of directors for many years.

Bob LOVED stock car races! He especially loved attending the races in Vinton with his buddies. He did this until he could no longer drive. Bob collected all kinds of Dale Earnhart memorabilia! He never got to complete his dream of attending the Indianapolis 500, but he never missed watching it on TV!

His baby sister, Carol, summed him up best by saying, “Bob was an outgoing, caring man who never knew a stranger. He always had a twinkle in his eye and wicked sense of humor!” He was deeply loved by his family and friends. His daughter, Nancy, proudly says that she takes after her dad and married a man just like him!

Bob passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Sunrise Hill Care Center at the age of 94. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marcella; daughter, Diana; grandchildren, Chelsea and Tyler Hubbard; brother, George Caslavka; his in-laws, Dennis Walton and Ruth Caslavka; and his beloved dog, Monet.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Nancy Hubbard; son-in law, Doug Hubbard; granddaughter, Brooklyn Hubbard; sister, Carol Walton; sisters-in-law, Patty (Russ) Abernathy and Mary Richart; and many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the Sunrise Hill Care Center staff for loving and caring for Bob these past few years. It meant the world to us!

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. No funeral services at this time.
