Renate Schons was born March 20, 1943, in Wiesbaden, Germany, daughter of Theresa Mertz. She was married to Gerald Schons, which brought her to Iowa, they later divorced. Most of her life, Renate was a caregiver and a homemaker. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino with her girlfriends. Renate spent precious time with her special friend, Anita Russell, and her family. Most importantly, her children were everything to her and she devoted her life to them being a nurturer.

Renate passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer, at the age of 82. She is preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Freddy Schons; her siblings, Helmut, Karleintx, Annalies and Hilda; her special friend, Anita Russell and her family dog, Booker. Renate is survived by her son, Danny Schons of Traer, daughter, Bev Schons of Traer and a twin sister, Christa (Dieter) Dauer of Germany.

Visitation: Friday, March 6, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, at Garden of Memories Cemetery Mausoleum, 3669 Logan Ave., Waterloo.

Funeral Service: Friday, March 6, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Garden of Memories Cemetery Mausoleum, 3669 Logan Ave., Waterloo.

Burial: Private to her immediate family.
