It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Rachelle Yvonne Heichel, who left us on January 16, 2026, in Waterloo, IA, at the age of 22, after a brief but serious illness. Rachelle was born on November 5, 2003, and throughout her life, she was a gentle, radiant soul whose spark for life touched everyone around her.

Rachelle’s sense of humor is fondly remembered by family and friends. She was the master of witty comebacks and could always break the tension with a sly remark—her sarcastic quips never failed to lighten even the toughest days. Rachelle’s passions included anything related to Sonic the Hedgehog, writing fan fiction, singing along to Taylor Swift and Disney tunes at the top of her lungs, and spending quality time with family and friends.

A celebration of Rachelle’s life will take place at the Jesup Community Center, located in the basement of Jesup City Hall on Sunday, January 18, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. The event will feature an ice cream social— a tribute to Rachelle’s love for ice cream and her knack for lifting spirits. Stories, photos, and cherished memories are welcomed and encouraged. Parking is available around Jesup City Hall and along the adjacent streets. The center is wheelchair accessible with an elevator.

Her memory will be honored by those she loved most. Rachelle is survived by her loving father, Russell (Leah) Heichel; her devoted mother, Shawn Skyles; her brother, Jerod Heichel; her sister, Bethany Borg; her stepsister, Angelle Pullin; her stepbrother, Logan Pullin; grandmother, Mary Jane Heichel; and grandfather, Jack Skyles. She also leaves behind countless friends and loved ones whose lives she enriched. She was preceded in death by her stillborn identical twin sister, Hannah; grandfather, James Heichel; and grandmother, Sharyn Skyles.

Rachelle’s warmth, humor, and kindness have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. As we gather to honor and remember her, we invite everyone to cherish their memories, share their stories, and support one another through this time. May her light continue to guide us, and may we hold close the laughter and love she brought into our lives.
