Jeffrey John Cizek, 71, of Traer, IA, passed away peacefully at home on February 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was a man of great character, known for his resilience, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to his family and work.

Born in Waterloo, IA, on March 1, 1954, to Ellsworth and Marlys (Wacha) Cizek, Jeff grew up in Traer, where he graduated from North Tama High School in 1972. Following his graduation, he attended the Hawkeye Institute of Technology in 1973, setting the foundation for a life marked by hard work and determination.

On October 9, 1982, Jeff met and married the love of his life, Lynn Wessels, in New Vienna, IA. Together, they celebrated 43 years of a beautiful marriage, filled with joy, love, and cherished memories. Jeff was a proud father to three wonderful children—Cara, Bryant, and Tyler—who brought him immense happiness. He took great joy in attending their sporting events, always beaming with pride as he watched them compete and thrive. His heart further expanded with the arrival of his seven grandchildren, whom he adored deeply, teaching them the joys of fishing and the nuances of fixing everyday things.

A skilled tradesman, Jeff co-owned and operated C and C Welding in Waterloo for over 40 years, a venture he started with his brother Joel in 1981. He was also known for operating his own repair and snowplowing services from their home acreage in Traer. Jeff’s customers quickly became like family to him; he was known for his exceptional service and had a reputation for being the go-to person when challenges arose. One might often hear, "If nobody can fix it, give it to Jeff. He’ll find a way."

In September of 2019, Jeff received a diagnosis of Stage Three Lung Cancer—a trial that tested his spirit and strength. He faced this battle with the heart of a warrior, enduring extensive treatments including chemotherapy, radiation, SRT, and immunotherapy. Despite the obstacles, Jeff and Lynn found solace in their love and took full advantage of their time together, traveling across the country to create lasting memories. Among the highlights of their adventures were breathtaking experiences such as a helicopter ride by Mount Denali in Alaska, drinking glacier water, and marveling at the majestic Grand Tetons of Wyoming.

With a sense of adventure that extended beyond the skies, Jeff enjoyed soaring high in the air, much to his wife’s dismay, with his rainbow-powered parachute. He brought joy to countless children by delightfully dropping teddy bears from above, bringing laughter and smiles to their faces. Fishing was a passion, and he cherished moments spent pontooning and enjoying gatherings at the lake home, continually seeking to connect with others and engage in meaningful conversations.

Faith served as an anchor in Jeff's life, guiding him through turbulent times. He was a devoted member of Orchard Hill Church, where he found comfort in worship music and teachings that resonated with him deeply.

Jeff is predeceased by his parents, Ellsworth and Marlys Cizek; his grandparents, Charles and Albina Cizek and John and Mary Wacha; and his in-laws, Jim and Lillian Wessels.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Lynn, of Traer, IA; his daughter Cara Hintz and Brian Hintz, with grandchildren Carter and Beckett of Cedar Falls, IA; son Bryant (Ashley) Cizek, and grandchildren Chase, Jaxon, and Brantley of Traer, IA; son Tyler Cizek, and grandchildren Quinnie and Reece of Waterloo, IA; two sisters, Jacque (Louis) Winchip of Cedar Rapids, IA, and JoEllen (Ray) Kubik of Traer, IA; one brother Joel (Connie) Cizek of Florida; brothers-in-law, Pat (Brenda) Wessels, Gary (Pam) Wessels, all of Dyersville, IA and Marty (Wanda) Wessels, of Farley, IA; and sisters-in-law Joyce (Kevin) Willman of Dyersville, IA, and Lois (Mark) Bonifas of Dubuque, IA; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to his family. A memorial scholarship will be established at the North Tama Community Schools for a graduating senior entering the skilled trade profession.

As his family gathers to honor his remarkable life, they wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Naseri and staff at MercyOne Cancer Center, Waterloo, IA; the Holden Cancer Center at the University of Iowa; Cedar Valley Hospice; and the countless family and friends who offered support during this challenging journey.

Jeffrey John Cizek will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
