Janet Felts

Janet Frances Felts was born on January 10th, 1937, to James & Evelyn Jennings of Lovington, Illinois. She had one younger sister, Wilda Hodo. Janet attended school there and later studied Art at Eastern Illinois in Charleston, Illinois.  Janet met the love of her life, John Felts, when he persisted in asking her to dance. They were later married on May 30th, 1956. John and Janet moved to Laurens, Iowa and later settled in Traer. Janet taught art for a short duration around Laurens until they decided to raise a family.  Janet & John became parents to three daughters: Jamie Porter (RD), Janeal Penning (Stan), and Janan Hicks (Nate).  Janet was a devoted mother and caretaker.  She took care of her daughters and reveled in watching their athletic, band, & musical events.  Later in life, Janet took care of her elderly parents and then her husband, John.  Janet had always wanted to be an artist.  She pursued her passion by painting homes on barn wood for residents.  Janet was also member of the United Methodist Church in Traer. She and John loved to take weekend trips around Iowa and camp.  Janet dearly loved her pets and always had dogs on which to dote.  Janet moved to Calvin Care Community in 2021, where she was closer to her daughters. When at Calvin Care Community, Janet was quite competitive playing card games (Crazy Eights) and took pride in her wins. She also enjoyed short DM metro adventures with her daughters, grandchildren & favorite grandson in law, Wei-erh Chen.  Janet loved her grandchildren:  Shauna (Shae) Harrison, Heather (Giancarlo) Direnzo, Danielle (Corey) Cook, Austin (Emily) Lyons, Kassidy (Wei-erh) Chen, and Reese Hicks.  Janet was preceded in death by her parents and husband, John.  The funeral will be on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 10:30 am, at the Traer United Methodist Church with a visitation for an hour prior to the service.  The burial will follow at Buckingham Cemetery.
