James Arthur Billings was born on June 15, 1937, in Omaha, NE the son of Arthur Louis and Helen Marie (Brueggemann) Billings. On October 26, 1984, he married Peggy Mehrhoff. A great portion of James’ life was spent running his two printing businesses Bye and Bye in Holstein, IA and Green Tree Graphics in Vinton, IA alongside his wife. In his free time James enjoyed building and driving his own drag racing cars. James was also an animal lover, especially dogs and cats. He also enjoyed traveling to many places with Peggy. In addition to these activities James was also a diehard Nebraska Cornhuskers fan. James also served as an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Vinton. He proudly served as a church elder for many years and was also the Sunday School Superintendent for a time. James was also a member of the board for a time at the Vinton Lutheran Home.
James passed away on Tuesday July 29, 2025, at the age of 88 at the Vinton Lutheran Home. He was preceded in death by his parents.
James is survived by daughter Katherine Lorenzen of Ogden, Utah; his sons David (Susan) Billings of Dayton, OH, Timothy (Deb) Billings of Ida Grove, IA and Steven (Julea) Billings of Port Orchard, WA; his granddaughter Amy (Michael) Jessen and many other grandchildren and his close friend Brian (Jen) Kreutner.
Memorial may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church Missionary Program.
