Delmar “Frog” W. Dreessen, age 90, passed away on May 15, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, friendship, and unforgettable memories shared with all who knew him.

Delmar was born on January 15, 1936, in a rural farmhouse on the county line between Tama and Black Hawk Counties in his beloved home state of Iowa. Growing up in the quiet countryside helped shape his hardworking spirit, quick wit, and deep appreciation for family, friendship, and the simple joys of life.

As a young man living south of Traer, Delmar became known for his mechanical abilities and his love of anything with an engine. Whether he was tinkering on International tractors, fixing equipment, or lending a helping hand to a neighbor, Delmar had a talent for making things run again and a reputation as someone people could always count on. More than anything, he enjoyed staying busy, spending time with friends, and enjoying the freedom of the outdoors.

Delmar especially loved camping and the adventures that came with it. Some of his favorite memories were made gathered around campfires, sharing stories, laughter, and good company. He also had a lifelong passion for stock car racing and enjoyed traveling to races in Michigan and Indianapolis, where the excitement of race day and the camaraderie of fellow fans brought him endless enjoyment.

Delmar’s story would not be complete without Beverly (Karr) Dreessen, the love of his life. The two first met as children, a connection that would grow into a lasting partnership. They were united in marriage on January 18, 1988, at the Chapel of Bells in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, Delmar and Beverly shared a marriage filled with companionship, humor, and adventure. Las Vegas held a special place in their hearts, and their annual trips there became treasured traditions. Following Beverly’s passing in 2018, Delmar continued to carry her memory close to his heart, and many who knew them affectionately remembered the pair simply as “Mom & Dad.”

Known to nearly everyone as “Frog,” Delmar possessed a larger-than-life personality and a sense of humor that could brighten any room. He enjoyed life on his own terms and never hid his appreciation for its simple pleasures—especially a Swisher Sweet cigar, a glass of Black Velvet, and the company of good friends. His colorful stories, quick comebacks, and unmistakable laugh made him someone people naturally gravitated toward.

Though he loved a good time, Delmar was equally admired for his loyalty and generosity. He was the kind of man who showed up when someone needed help, never asking for anything in return. Friends knew they could depend on him for advice, hard work, or simply a listening ear. In his later years after relocating to Chelsea, Iowa, Delmar especially found pride and joy in running his bobcat skid loader and enjoying the beautiful Midwest sunsets. The friendships he built throughout his life became an extended family that meant the world to him.

Delmar was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Beverly. He is survived by many dear friends, especially his close friend Nancy Dvorak, along with the countless people across Iowa and beyond whose lives were made better by his friendship, humor, and steadfast presence.

Delmar’s Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home. A light reception will follow the service.

He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever celebrated as a true Iowa original.
