Daniel "Dan" Ewoldt

June 19, 1960 — August 3, 2024

Traer

Daniel Loren Ewoldt was born on June 19,1960 to Loren and Pauline Ewoldt. Dan was the oldest of 4 children. Dan was raised on the family farm northwest of Clutier, with farming in his blood from the start, modeling after his grandfather Elmer Ewoldt and Father Loren. He attended North Tama Community Schools and graduated with the class of 1978. He will always say, the Clutier school was his favorite. Dan was a hard throwing left hander on the baseball field and known to drive his motorcycle through the school. After school, along with farming, Dan drove truck, hauling seed for Funks, Kruger Seeds, and Pioneer.

On May 28, 1982, Dan was united in marriage with Susan Kiewiet at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center. They were blessed with two children, son Andrew and daughter Emily, and 4 beautiful blonde granddaughters. Dan would move the moon and earth for his wife and children. One of his biggest goals in life was to obtain farmland and ensure his family was well taken care of. Dan never wanted wealth for himself, and he never asked for a thing. Dan enjoyed watching his children participate in activities and was a very vocal supporter. “Dominate em’ Andy” or “Go Gomer the Gunner” would often be heard from him. He also was fond of a drive around the countryside to make sure the crops were still growing and to check in on all of the neighbors. His greatest passion was running the combine in the fall. The grain that was harvested was like gold to him.

Recently Dan and Sue enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida with their granddaughter, Delta. As long as there was a hot tub Dan was happy with the destination. Dan was well known for his fun-loving attitude, and love of creating nicknames for others. He also loved to check in with numerous phone calls to his friends and family. Dan also had a love for all things, animals and always had a pet. Over the last several years he enjoyed the company of his cats Rizzo, Bailey, and Chester. He still enjoyed a card game with friends as well.

Dan joined his Father in Heaven on August 3, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife Sue, son Andy (Kelly) Ewoldt, daughter Emily (Brandon Doyle) and 4 granddaughters Savannah, Kennedy and Quinn Ewoldt, and Delta Doyle. He was preceded in death by his parents Loren and Pauline Ewoldt and mother-in-law Marianne Kiewiet. Dan was very proud of his children. He found comfort that both of his children knew the value of hard work and the importance of giving back to others.

Visitation will be held for Dan on Monday, August 12th at the Traer United Presbyterian Church from 4-7PM. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, August 13th at the Traer United Presbyterian Church at 10:00AM with a meal at the Traer Golf Course to follow. He will be laid to rest at the Oneida Cemetery. Memorials can be made out to Unity Point Hospice or the Tama County Humane Society, directed to the family.
