Carol Ann Waltemate was born on December 18, 1941, in Waverly, Iowa, to Earnest and Zenetta (Hack) Waltemate. She graduated from Plainfield High School in 1960 and attended beauty school in 1961. In 1962, she opened a beauty shop in Traer with Marlys Stuart. She later worked with Donna Franklin before moving her shop, Countryside Beauty Salon, to her home in the country.
In 1999, Carol became an EMT and joined the Traer Ambulance Service, where she achieved Level I certification. She also served as a CPR instructor. Carol volunteered countless hours with the ambulance service, and her dedication could always be counted on whenever shifts needed to be covered.
Carol had a deep love for animals and was rarely without her dog by her side. She showed Quarter and Paint horses for more than 20 years and held several offices within the Quarter Horse Association. She was a hardworking, kind, and compassionate soul who was always willing to lend a helping hand to others.
She was preceded in death by her lifelong partner, Lawrence Koebke; her parents; and several aunts and uncles.
Carol is survived by her granddaughter, Katrina (Michael) Cavalieri; her great-grandsons, Luciano and Giovanni; and countless friends.
To honor Carol, memorials may be directed to the Tama County Humane Society in her memory. A graveside service at Crystal Cemetery will be held at a later date.
