Arlene Schlichting was born September 13, 1934, near Clutier, Iowa, daughter of Otto and Emma (Linhart) Smolik. She attended Oneida #5 Country School in Clutier, Iowa. Arlene married Allen Schlichting on January 31, 1953, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa; he preceded her in death on March 11, 2000. She worked at Kozy Korner Kafe, Nissen Bakery and babysat children during bowling. However, Arlene was known as the famous potato salad lady, working at the Traer Super Value for 40 years. Arlene was a very hard worker and worked until she was 84 years old. She enjoyed gardening, baking, work search puzzles and diet Pepsi. Arlene loved the slots at the casino and playing bingo with Allen.
Arlene passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 91. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Melvin Smolik and sister, Vivian Jesina. Arlene is survived by her three sons, Gary (Eva) Schlichting, Gerald (Deb) Schlichting and Ronald (Tina) Schlichting, all of Traer; nine grandchildren, Andrew (Heather Mennenga) Schlichting, Chastity Kacher, Casey Velasquez, Lacey (Jesse Hansen) Blohm, Darren (Rachel) Schlichting, Matt (Brittany) Schlichting, Emily (Jacob) Moye, Nicole (Scott) Hemann and Charlie Kacher and 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, at Overton Funeral Home, 714 First St., Traer, 50675.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 10:00 am at Overton Funeral Home.
There will be a private family burial.
